Uusia kankaita -- New fabrics

Alkuviikosta päätin pistäytyä pitkästä aikaa kirppiksellä tonkimassa lakanoita. Olin jo luopua toivosta, kun näin yhden pöydän alla pinon herkullisen värisiä kuoseja. Neljän pussilakan nippu 2€. Puolet tuli oikeastaan turhaan, kun eivät myyneet vain haluamiani kahta, mutta ehkä toisillekin vielä löytyy käyttöä.. Vihreä-oranssi lakana muuntui jo mielessäni tyttövauvan pukineeksi...

Early this week I decided to stop by a flea market to see if they have any interesting bed sheets. I nearly gave up hope and left empty handed when I noticed a pile of bed sheets under a table. Four different fabrics, two of them sweet as a candy for 2€. The other two weren't so nice but I had to buy all of them, they wouldn't sell them unless I took all four of them. But maybe they too end up to some exciting new clothing.. I can already see the green and orange fabric made into a baby-girl's dress...

Tylsä kummitäti -- Dull godmother

Kummipoikani viettää viikonloppuna synttäreitä. Tiedustelin hänen äidiltään, onko sankarilla lahjatoiveita.

Sain kuulla, että pian 5-v. kummipoikani oli heti hakenut paperinpalan ja kirjoittanut siihen jotain robotista. Kirjekuoreen hän oli kirjoittanut aivan itse sukunimeni isoilla kirjaimilla ja numeroita, kuulemma postilaatikon numerot. No, onneksi on tuo sähköposti, kun varsinainen kirje oli hukkunut jo ennen lähettämistä.

Mutta mitä tekee kummitäti? Ei mitään hienoa robottia, joka kaukosäätimestä painamalla liikkuu ja silmät vilkkuu ja ääntä kuuluu. Ei, kummitäti ompelee tylsän pehmeän paketin. Laittaa sentään lohdutukseksi pipon kylkeen kuvan robotista. Ja pitäähän robotilla olla heijastava vartalo, jotta kummipoika pysyy turvassa liikenteen seassa.

My godson turns 5 this weekend. I asked his mother for suggestions for a birthday present. She told me that he had taken a piece of paper as soon as he had heard my question. He had written something about a robot. Then he had taken an envelope and written my surename on it all by himself. And some numbers. Numbers of the mailbox, apparently.

I didn't get the letter, because it went missing before they sent it, but luckily there are other kind of mailboxes to send the information to.

So, what does the godmother do? She doesn't get her godson a robot. No, she makes a soft present. A beanie with a picture of a robot. How dull is that?!

The body of the robot is made of reflective fabric to keep my godson safe when outdoors in the dark.

Tunika nro 2 -- Tunic no. 2

Ihastuin tunikan kaavaan niin paljon, että pienten parannusten jälkeen tein toisen vaaleanpunaisesta kirppislakanasta. Sitä oli jäänyt jakusta juuri sopivan kokoinen pala.

I liked the tunic so much that I had to make another one. After a few adjustments on the pattern I used the rest of the pink fabric, a leftover from the jacket I had made earlier. The fabric used to be a second-hand bed sheet.

Hyvää uutta ompeluvuotta! -- Happy new sewing year!

Loman viimeinen päivä on pian ohi ja arki on edessä. Pidin työasiat poissa mielestä ompelemalla itselleni tunikan. Kangas on maatuskamekosta tuttu kirppislakana.

Hihoista tuli kivan malliset, reunaan laitoin koristenauhan. Helmassa aiemmasta ompelutyöstä jäänyt pitsi.

The last day of Christmas holiday is nearly over. I kept all work-related thoughts away by sewing a tunic. The fabric is the same second-hand sheet I used for a litlle girl's dress earlier. I like how the sleeves turned out. I used a left-over lace for the hem.
