Mikä löytö! Ostin kuusiosaisen kirjasarjan kirppikseltä: Maat ja kansat, painettu 50-luvun puolivälissä. Nämä kirjat kertovat omaa tarinaansa tuon ajan asenteista ja näkemyksistä siinä missä maantieteellisistä ja yhteiskuntaan liittyvistä faktoista. Kaiken lisäksi mukana tuli värilliset kartat kaikista mantereista.

Oh, what a find! Bought this series of books from a second hand shop. 6 volumes, printed in mid 1950's. The series is called "Countries and peoples". The books don't just tell the known facts of geography and society, they tell a story of peoples' views and attitudes, too. And on top of photos and text, there were separate sheets of maps of all the continets.
On kiehtovaa katsella valokuvia paikoista, joissa olen käynyt ja huomata, mitkä asiat ovat muuttuneet puolessa vuosisadassa ja mitkä eivät.

It was fascinating to look at the photos of places where I'd been to myself and see what had changed during half a century and what hadn't.
Sydney Harbour Bridge

The bridge itself hasn't changed much... It's just that these days there are groups of tourists going up and down the top arc of the bridge every 15 minutes or so.
York Street, Sydney
